Open-source licences

Last updated: October 9, 2026

The short version: Fixby's on-device assistant runs an openly licensed AI model on top of an open-source engine. Both are used under their own licences, which are reproduced below and in the app under Settings → Open-source licences. Nothing in our Terms limits the rights those licences give you.

1. The on-device AI model

Fixby downloads one AI model file to your phone the first time you use it, from Hugging Face, and checks its size and checksum before using it. Which model your phone runs depends on how much memory it has. Both models were created by the Qwen team at Alibaba Cloud and are released under the Apache License, Version 2.0.

Qwen3-1.7B

Runs on every supported phone. Original model: huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen3-1.7B. The file Fixby downloads is a GGUF conversion of that model, quantised to Q4_K_M by Unsloth (huggingface.co/unsloth/Qwen3-1.7B-GGUF).

Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507

For phones with 8 GB of memory or more, where this larger model is enabled. Original model: huggingface.co/Qwen/Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507. The file Fixby downloads is a GGUF conversion of that model, quantised to Q4_K_M by Unsloth (huggingface.co/unsloth/Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507-GGUF).

What was changed

The conversion and quantisation were done by Unsloth, not by the Qwen team, and Unsloth may have changed file metadata as well (for example the chat template). Fixby does not modify the model weights or the file.

Licence

Apache License, Version 2.0, “Copyright 2024 Alibaba Cloud”. The full text, unedited: Apache-2.0 licence text (plain text).

The name Qwen is used only to say where the model comes from. Alibaba Cloud and Unsloth do not endorse Fixby.

2. llama.cpp (ggml)

Fixby's on-device assistant runs on llama.cpp / ggml, which is MIT licensed. The full text: MIT licence text (plain text). The runtime also contains a few small vendored libraries (stb_image, miniaudio and others) whose licences are in the app under Settings → Open-source licences.

3. Other components

Both apps also use open-source software that is not listed above: the PDFium PDF renderer and the libraries inside it, SQLite (public domain), Flutter and Dart packages, and two open fonts under the SIL Open Font License. The iPhone app additionally uses Google Sign-In for iOS and its dependencies, and Sentry Cocoa. Their licence texts are in the app under Settings → Open-source licences.

4. The Android app

The Android app has the same AI model and llama.cpp engine as above. It also contains the components below, whose licence texts are in the app under Settings → Open-source licences. This list covers the libraries that are not Flutter or Dart packages; those are listed in the app as well.

  • Apache License 2.0: AndroidX, Kotlin and kotlinx.coroutines, OkHttp and Okio, Gson, Tink, Dagger and similar libraries. The full text: Apache-2.0 licence text (plain text).
  • Google Play services, the Google Play Billing Library, Google Identity (Sign in with Google) and Google ML Kit (QR scanning): provided by Google under the Android Software Development Kit License and, for ML Kit, the ML Kit Terms of Service. The open-source licences of the code inside them (for example Abseil, Eigen, OpenCV, Protocol Buffers and TensorFlow Lite) are in the app.
  • Sentry Android SDK and Sentry Native (MIT), with the code they contain from libunwindstack (Apache License 2.0), MPack, jsmn and stb_sprintf.
  • PdfiumAndroid and AndroidPdfViewer (Apache License 2.0), with PDFium, libpng and FreeType (under the FreeType Licence), and libyuv (BSD-3-Clause) from AndroidX CameraX.
  • LLVM libc++ and the OpenMP runtime from the Android NDK (Apache License 2.0 with LLVM Exceptions).
  • Java library desugaring (desugar_jdk_libs), which lets newer Java APIs run on older Android versions, under the GNU General Public License version 2 with the Classpath Exception. Source: github.com/google/desugar_jdk_libs.
